Escalante City
founded in 1875 it was incorporated in 1903 with Alfred Luther as President of the town board. Many of the founding families men have served as elected officials and there have been two women Mayors. Unfortunately, town records prior to 1940 have been lost or destroyed with the exception of a copy of the first town ordinances posted February 12, 1904.
The City is managed under a Mayor - Council system. Each Council member is in charge of a portion of the City operations. The Mayor oversees the direction of the City and Personnel. Check the Council Page for specific assignments for the current council.
Based on Census Records, the estimated Median Household Income in 2000 was $32,143. The Estimated median house value in 2000 was $100,600. The population has fluctuated based on the boom and bust cycles of Logging, Mining, and ranching.
